Donations for Midwives going to the Dominican Republic

Dear friends,

Some dear friends of mine who are Midwives and Midwives apprentices are going to the Dominican Republic for a midwifery clinical trip in July.  They each need to bring 100 pounds of supplies with them!

They are asking our community for items that they would be willing to donate.

Items do NOT have to be midwifery-specific. In fact, one of the biggest needs is for travel/hotel shampoos, soaps, and other small toiletries, as the hospitals do not have these and the moms typically don’t either.

Another huge need is for clean (used) flannel-type baby blankets and newborn clothes. New is not important as they will have to wash everything first anyway.

To that end, below is the list of requested items. If you have items to donate, contact me and I will get you in touch with the women who are going.

If you happen to be at a yard sale and see a huge stash of newborn clothes/blankets or bags of hotel toiletries, the women would be happy to pay you back for them.

Desired items include:

*Single bed sheets tops and bottoms

*Baby clothes /blankets (summer season preferred) infant-12 mo

*Photo paper / 4×6 for moms to get picture of baby

*Clothes for moms or kids

*Soaps, shampoos and towels for moms and babies

*Spanish books or info on pregnancy, birth, PostPartum, breastfeeding

*Black pens

*Silk flowers (to make fancy pens…apparently the nurses LOVE this!)

*Small toys to give to kids

*Gloves, sterile and non-sterile

*Chux pads, washable type best

*Gallon ziplock bags (to make kits)

* General OB / L&D items:
1. bulb syringes
2. OB meds
3. surgical cloths
4. thermometers
5. O2 equipment
6. ambu bags
7. breast pumps
8. disposable baby wipes

Thank you so much for anything you can do to help, including good thoughts for a safe and productive trip.
