Chasing after two

I have had the great pleasure of working with this family before.  Welcome to their newest addition!  Big brother is doing great with his baby brother and the mom is handling 2 under 2 with grace ;)  Mom was impressed with my ability to understand her toddler.  I think I need a shirt that says “I speak toddler!”

This little guy was born in Dec and he is already so full of personality!

Look I caught a sneeze!

Check out these eyes.

2 year old with beautiful eyes

Who says babies don’t smile??

And here is the quintessential family portrait with a two year old :)

Donations for Midwives going to the Dominican Republic

Dear friends,

Some dear friends of mine who are Midwives and Midwives apprentices are going to the Dominican Republic for a midwifery clinical trip in July.  They each need to bring 100 pounds of supplies with them!

They are asking our community for items that they would be willing to donate.

Items do NOT have to be midwifery-specific. In fact, one of the biggest needs is for travel/hotel shampoos, soaps, and other small toiletries, as the hospitals do not have these and the moms typically don’t either.

Another huge need is for clean (used) flannel-type baby blankets and newborn clothes. New is not important as they will have to wash everything first anyway.

To that end, below is the list of requested items. If you have items to donate, contact me and I will get you in touch with the women who are going.

If you happen to be at a yard sale and see a huge stash of newborn clothes/blankets or bags of hotel toiletries, the women would be happy to pay you back for them.

Desired items include:

*Single bed sheets tops and bottoms

*Baby clothes /blankets (summer season preferred) infant-12 mo

*Photo paper / 4×6 for moms to get picture of baby

*Clothes for moms or kids

*Soaps, shampoos and towels for moms and babies

*Spanish books or info on pregnancy, birth, PostPartum, breastfeeding

*Black pens

*Silk flowers (to make fancy pens…apparently the nurses LOVE this!)

*Small toys to give to kids

*Gloves, sterile and non-sterile

*Chux pads, washable type best

*Gallon ziplock bags (to make kits)

* General OB / L&D items:
1. bulb syringes
2. OB meds
3. surgical cloths
4. thermometers
5. O2 equipment
6. ambu bags
7. breast pumps
8. disposable baby wipes

Thank you so much for anything you can do to help, including good thoughts for a safe and productive trip.

Funny sweet faces

This little one wasn’t really into being photographed- but wow we got so many darling images of her!  She really won my heart- and the compliments from the mom made my day- no- they made my week.

I love how dad and daughter are hanging out on the couch - chilling with each other.

tee hee- so cute!

Busy Girl, Victorian, and a Grand Piano

I had the pleasure of photographing this charming little girl with her lovely mom and elegant grandparents.   Isn’t she lovely?

The Grandparents live in a picturesque Victorian that is simply beautiful.

Some piano time with grandfather.

Taking a turn at the piano.

A quick cuddle with mom then back to being a busy girl.

Some antiqued gingerbread for you.

This little one was quite a character.  Her expressions had me giggling!  Don’t you love how she is peeking in the mail slot looking for her grandparents?

Thank you !!

Simple Abundance

I am so incredibly thankful for our local Santa Cruz Farmers’ Markets.  The farmers are out in the rain, selling their gorgeous organic produce- sharing stories about their land and what is coming into season next.  What abundance we have and *waves hi to my friends in the snow* how lucky we are to live in a place where we can have produce fresh from the fields.  Thank you to all the Farmers!

Tonights menu- fresh lemon, asparagus, sorrel soup (that’s sorrel in the lower right), steamed rainbow chard, and something else that will inspire me later.

If only you could smell the heady intoxicating scent that fills my home right now….

Cowboy and his beauty

This newborn session resulted in some really touching images for me.  I sincerely connected with this wonderful family.

Isn’t this image of dad simply amazing?  Rugged and tender at the same time.
